Please join us today as we remember and honor the life of James “Buford” Williamson. In 1967, Mr. Williamson joined the Panther Family as Director of Pupil Personnel (DPP) and quickly became a respected and valued administrator in the Pikeville Independent School System. You could often find him walking the halls of both schools to check on students or standing at the bus drop-off early in the morning to ensure all students were present and ready to learn. If you weren't there, he'd be calling or knocking on your door to pick you up in his own car to bring you to school. Mr. Williamson understood the value of education, and he understood the value of new experiences. He would always encourage each school to plan field trips to many different places throughout Kentucky. He loved to see our students experience new things and never missed being with them on every summer school trip. It was evident that he held a deep love for children. He not only led with a smile, but he also led by example, which helped to create a culture of compassion and high expectations that continues to define our school today. Through 35 years of dedication in education, he shaped the lives of countless students, fellow educators, and families and left a lasting impression. The example set by him continues to inspire and reminds us that great schools are built by people with great hearts. Thank you, Mr. Williamson, for the part you played in shaping the Pikeville Independent School System. You will forever be part of our story!

Pikeville Independent Schools is excited to welcome the newest member of our team. Officer Jason Merlo joins our team as School Resource Officer assigned to Pikeville High School. Officer Merlo spent over twenty years with the Kentucky State Police, and is a familiar name in our school and community because of his time giving to kids. We are excited and blessed to have Officer Merlo as a member of the Panther Family! Thank you to District Judge Robbie Wright for taking his time this morning to come swear Officer Merlo in here at Pikeville High School. We appreciate him and his willingness to always support the school district!

All students, faculty, and staff are invited to wear purple tomorrow, Wednesday, August 13th, to honor the legacy of Alice Rich!
27 days ago, Glenda Adkins
Pikeville Elementary School is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Alice Rich who devoted 39 years of her life to serving our students and staff in the cafeteria. Alice was more than someone who prepared and served meals…she was a friend to all and a constant presence in our school family. Her smile, her laughter, and her kindness touched generations of students and coworkers. It is hard to imagine our cafeteria without her. Her dedication, love, and service will never be forgotten, and her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched. Please join us as we send prayers to the family and celebrate her life and the difference she made at Pikeville Elementary School! We love you, Alice! We miss you already!

If you didn't get to start the day with these kindergarteners, I'm sorry you are missing out. Biggest smiles we have had on our faces all summer! These kids have come in to do some testing and begin their journeys as we kick off our revamped Kindercamp week that is all about our kids and getting them prepared for an outstanding school year. We love our kids and team!

Good afternoon! As you are likely aware, Senate Bill 181 requires that all communication between students and staff/volunteers be through a traceable communication system. Those approved systems are on the attached flyer.

In addition, this piece of legislation also did allow for a parent/guardian to complete a waiver for each individual staff member who they determine might have a need for communication with their child outside of the traceable system. The waiver is available with the obvious understanding by employees and volunteers that all communication is required to be ethical, legal and only for the purposes stated on the form. This waiver must be initiated by the parent/guardian and kept on file in the child’s school. Because of the need to assure these forms are initiated and completed by the parent, the forms will need to be printed, with the original signature of the parent/guardian and turned in to the child’s school.

Please notice that there is not an end date on these waivers, as this would become a clerical difficulty, but based upon SB 181, you can visit the school office anytime to revoke the waiver by simply completing the bottom portion.

We want to be clear that this is simply a parent right and completion by you cannot be required by any employee or volunteer for any reason. Also, the participation in any organization, class or activity cannot be limited based upon whether or not a waiver is completed.

We appreciate your patience and willingness to complete these forms as we work to be in compliance with the law and always place the safety of our students as a top priority. Please never hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. We hope you have a blessed day!

Sincerely,

David Trimble
