Today, the Pikeville Independent School District joins communities across the nation in celebrating School Principals’ Day, a time dedicated to recognizing the visionaries who lead our schools. We are proud to honor two exceptional leaders who serve as the cornerstones of our "Panther Family": Mr. Brandon Blackburn of Pikeville High School and Mrs. Glenda Adkins of Pikeville Elementary School.

The strength of the Pikeville Independent School District lies in the continuity of leadership. From the foundational years at the elementary level to the college-and-career readiness of the high school, both Mr. Blackburn and Mrs. Adkins work tirelessly behind the scenes. Their roles often require long hours, late-night supervision, and the difficult task of navigating the ever-changing landscape of modern education. Yet, they both approach their work with a genuine commitment to the "Panther Family" that is evident to parents, faculty, and students alike.

Panthers Families: Please keep this in mind as your plan to bring kids to school and pick them up. The message is attached. We know this might cause some traffic issues until everyone becomes more comfortable with it and finds the best path. Also, please keep in mind that we will have some minimal adjustments to our bus routes that could cause a few minutes difference to our timing. Please be patient with us during our morning and afternoon routes as we make these adjustments as well. We appreciate the work being done to keep our roads and area safe, and the communication we have received from Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 12 and their partners. We hope you have a safe and blessed remainder of your weekend!

This week on the Panthers Pawcast, Jeff is joined by Pikeville High School students Katherine Dolohite, Zoe Cornett, Raven Jones, and Sierra Pinson — members of the University of Kentucky Healthy Way Program. This student-led group is focused on promoting healthier choices in their school, and this year they’ve taken on a major issue affecting teens: vaping.

They share why they chose this topic, what they’ve learned, and the steps they’re taking inside Pikeville High School to raise awareness and encourage students to stay vape-free.

Good morning Panther Families! After exhaustive work overnight by Pikeville Police, and the Kentucky State Police, the individual who made the threat directed toward Pikeville High School is in custody. The students is a juvenile, and therefore no details can be released at this time. As a result, Pikeville Independent Schools WILL be in session today, Wednesday, March 25th, 2026. These agencies will have additional units on campus today, along with our SRO's for the comfort of our students, staff and families. The agencies involved have worked very closely throughout the night with us and we are comfortable with the return of our students and staff today to our schools. A longer statement will be released later this morning, but we wanted to communicate with you as quickly as possible. I hope you have a safe and blessed day!

Any changes will be communicated early, and all situations like this will be addressed to the fullest extent that the law will allow. Thank you for your trust you place in us to educate your children and provide them a safe environment. I hope you have a blessed evening, and I will communicate further with you no later than 5:30am tomorrow, including if changes must be made for the school day. I hope you have a blessed evening!
