Good evening Panther Families! After evaluating road conditions throughout the evening, we have begun to see significant drying from the rain, snow and melting snow over the past two days. In order to allow for additional daylight for our student drivers, faculty, staff, buses and families, Pikeville Independent Schools will be on a ONE HOUR DELAY tomorrow, Thursday, February 5th, 2026. We will reevaluate roads early tomorrow morning to assure there has not been issues with refreezing overnight, and will inform you of any necessary changes first thing. We hope you have a safe and blessed evening, and really hope to get to see everyone tomorrow!
Good morning! Pikeville Independent Schools will be Closed on Wednesday, February 4th, 2026 due to inclement weather. After reviewing our roads over the past hour and a half, while some remain wet, our upper elevations and side roads are snow covered and extremely slick in several areas. With precipitation continuing and temperatures expected to drop throughout the morning, based on our conversation with NWS Jackson, the conditions do not allow for us to be in school. While we hate to be out, and do apologize for the inconvenience, the safety of our students, staff and families must be a priority. This will be a REGULAR SNOW DAY. I hope you have a safe and blessed day!

Good evening everyone! Pikeville Independent Schools will be on REGULAR SCHEDULE tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026. We do have one route adjustment. Bus 172 will run to the first curve on Williams Hollow (Intersection of Williams Hollow Road and Rachel Drive) and will turn there due to difficulty with the regular turnaround for the bus. If you cannot get your child to that spot, please call the school and we will work to make alternate arrangements for you. We hope you have a safe and blessed evening!
Good evening Panther Family! Just a reminder that day two of our two day Winter Break is scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, February 2nd, 2026. This day also fulfills the requirement of a contracted Flexible Professional Learning Day for members of our team! We hope you have a blessed evening and look forward to having our students back in our buildings following the break!
Good evening Panther Family! Please see the attached letter. Just a reminder, our Winter Break that was preciously schedule is Friday, January 30th and Monday, February 2nd. Good afternoon Panther Families! We hope all remains well for each of you. I wanted to inform you that Tuesday, January 27th, 2026 will be NTI Day #1 for Pikeville Independent Schools, due to inclement travel conditions and being under a Cold Weather Advisory. Girls All A State Tournament- Wednesday, January 21st, 2026
Good evening Panther Family! We are so proud of our Pikeville High School Girls Basketball team, as they won the 15th Region All A Championship, and will represent us next week in the state tournament. As a result, I wanted to inform you that there will be NO SCHOOL on Wednesday, January 21st, 2026 to allow students, staff, employees, and our community to make the trip, if possible. We are excited to support these young ladies and their coaches, and hope you will be able to do the same. We just wanted to get the information out in advance for your planning purposes. We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow! Have a blessed and wonderful evening!

In Session One Hour Delay- Thursday, January 15th, 2026
Good morning! As we had hoped, with the snow being a dry snow, the roads that were becoming snow covered have now cleared asa result of traffic and being treated. As a result, Pikeville Independent Schools will be in session on a One Hour Delay, Thursday, January 15th, 2026. A huge thank you to the City of Pikeville Road Department, as well as the State Transportation Cabinet for all of their work this morning, and each day to keep us safe. We look forward to seeing everyone! We hope you have a safe and blessed day!

One Hour Delay- Thursday, January 15th, 2026
Good morning! Over the past fifteen minutes, the Cedar Creek area of our district has been hit with some strong snow showers, as you can see from the pictures. As we watch snow move out of the area over the next half hour, we will be on a One Hour Delay, but will reevaluate and have a final decision no later than 6:30 as to whether school will be in session or not. We know days like this are difficult for families to make and apologize for that, but we want to make sure we make the safest possible decision for our students, staff and families.

I apologize for the layout of the last message. I have attached a screenshot of the message in a much clearer format. Sorry for the second message, I will keep that formatting issue in mind for future messages. I hope you have a blessed evening!

Infinite Campus Portal is down today 12/23 through 12/26 for a schedule migration and database maintenance. Connection is scheduled to be back up by close of business 12/26. Staff & Student access may not be accessible until 12/29. Please note IC Parent Mobile App login should work as usual once work is complete. However, standard web browser URL links for Staff, Parent and Student Portal online versions have changed and the new URL links for these web versions will be on our district site menus.

Good morning Panther Family! Thank you for your patience this morning if you were in PHS traffic. At about 7:10 this morning after our buses had departed, a media line of some type dropped down limiting clearance at the entrance of our school. A huge thank you to Pikeville Fire, Pikeville Police, Kentucky Department of Transportation District 12, and Pikeville Public Safety for their assistance throughout the morning in helping us with traffic and getting our day started. We have outstanding community partners, and we are always thankful for them. We hope you have a safe and blessed day!
Regular Schedule: Friday, December 19th, 2025
Good morning! We hope everyone has remained safe following last night's strong storms. As of just before 6:30 this morning, all routes across the district were passable, with no issues. Please be safe on your trip in this morning as there are leaves, sticks and other items that were blown around during the storms. We look forward to seeing everyone on this final school day before our Christmas Break! We hope you have a safe and blessed day!
This week, Jeff sits down with Superintendent David Trimble, Transportation Director and Head Football Coach Chris McNamee, and Appalachian News-Express sports writer Randy White to break down how Pikeville Independent Schools decide on weather delays and cancellations — and to recap the Panthers’ football season from the inside.

One Hour Delay: Tuesday, December 16th, 2025
Good evening Panther Family! We had a great day today in Pikeville Independent Schools. It was great to see our kids, families and staff. Roads in our community continue to be very similar across our district to what they were this morning, mainly dry. There was just a minor amount of melting today, and with temperatures dropping into the upper 20's after midnight, Pikeville Independent Schools will be on a ONE HOUR DELAY on Tuesday, December 16th, 2025. Hopefully this will allow for additional daylight, visibility and time for travel for our students, staff, families and buses as they travel in tomorrow morning. I do apologize for multiple delays this week, as I know that is an inconvenience for families, but hopefully after tomorrow, the warmer temperatures will keep us from having that need the remainder of the week. Thank you for your patience and understanding! We hope you have a blessed and wonderful evening!
Good evening Panther Family! After reviewing roads throughout our district, they are overwhelmingly dry and safe for travel. Out of an abundance of caution to allow for additional daylight, better visibility and additional travel for all drivers in our district, Pikeville Independent Schools will be on a ONE HOUR DELAY, Monday, December 15th, 2025. We hope you have a safe, blessed and wonderful evening!
Good morning! Roads across our district have become snow covered, and with temperatures in the upper 20's and snow continuing to fall, this will continue to be the case throughout the morning. As a result, there will be NO SCHOOL today, December 12th, 2025 for Pikeville Independent Schools. We hope you have a safe and blessed weekend and we hope to see everyone back on Monday!

This week Pikeville Elementary STEAM Teacher Amanda Robinson & STLP students participated in the KEDC AI Bootcamp!
Check out the video from KEDC: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/17tNfvNH7Z/?mibextid=wwXIfr
KEDC’s AI Bootcamp is an exciting, hands-on experience where students learn how artificial intelligence actually works — and how they can use it to create, solve problems, and shape the future.
During the bootcamp, students experiment with real AI tools, build mini-projects, explore career pathways, and learn how to use technology safely and responsibly. They’ll discover how AI shows up in everyday life, from weather forecasting to medicine to entertainment, and get to try things that spark creativity and confidence.
KEDC’s AI Bootcamp empowers students to become leaders in a rapidly changing world, giving them the skills and inspiration they need to take on new challenges — including the Presidential AI Challenge itself.
